Evaluation of usability according to heuristics or standards
We use our own tool, WebA, which is a semiautomatic tool. It is geared towards evaluators of websites, and aims to facilitate and reduce time in the evaluation process. The tool combines two methods of assessment, automatic evaluation and heuristics.
WebA is a database that contains information provided by the persons in charge of evaluation. The information is gathered by completing a series of forms based on the following rules:
- Guidance on usability.
- Presentation of information.
- User's Guide.
- Dialogue through menus.
- Dialogue through commands.
- Dialogue through direct manipulation.
- Dialogue by filling in forms.
The assessment of each and every one of the items for each rule ensures the dependability of these. The process is based on the assessment by a group of experts, working individually, who then combine their findings.
In every rule there are a number of recommendations. The evaluation process checks the conformity of each of the recommendations and determines if the recommendation is applicable, if it is, it then indicates that it meets the standard level, according to a established scale.
